Profile System

- Put people dynamically in touch with other people who can help them
- Identify and search for other users by their interests and competences
- Identify other users by their connections to people and ideas.
- Identify other users by the concepts they are using or working on.
The Laboranova Profile System is designed to enhance users’ ability to identify people who would be useful to them in creating innovations. Profiling tools are key in that they should generate virtual crossroads that normally mainly happen by chance in our professional life - such as meeting someone having a common interest with a complementary expertise during a conference or other event – they can thus provide a random chance of meeting a collaboration opportunity.
The profile system stores the users’ personal profiles, including their interests, competences, job title, email and other contact information. This is the basis for allowing users to find other users with interests and/or competences who could help them with their innovative ideas. The profile system enhances this “static” profile with dynamic profiling.
Dynamic Profiling builds a ‘profile’ of the user based on People Connections and Knowledge Connection. People Connection dynamically identifies the concepts users are working with, and connects them with people working on related concepts (i.e. idea nearness). Knowledge Connection dynamically identifies the knowledge assets related to the concepts users are currently working on.

Example Scenario
A user has come up with a novel system for providing clean water in the developing countries. Normally, water has to be boiled to remove bacteria, however, using a novel water filter it is possible to purify water without heating it.
The user, an expert in hydraulics, lacks the knowledge about the latest high-performance filters. The profile system allows him to perform searches for users with competence in filtration, and to find users working with related concepts (eg. water, filtration, air filter, etc).
